Quick Search (search index is updated every sunday evening to include new entries) Welcome to Driffield And Wolds Genealogy. As the title suggests, this site concentrates mainly on Driffield and surrounding villages on the wolds. My own family do not come from this area of England, so I know how difficult it is to get access to information when living in another county and it must be almost impossible, if you live in another country altogether. For that reason, I have spent the last few years gathering up as much research material as possible, in an effort to aid those whose ancestors hailed from this part of Yorkshire. --------------------------- My speciality is collecting old news stories, from the Driffield Times, which is a goldmine for family history or local history researchers, but this source is often overlooked by others, because of the huge amount of time it takes to search through them. I do not pretend to have every news story printed, not do I search all the papers for you, but what I do have, is posted on this site so you can search through them for your names of interest, or for any other purpose. Enjoy your trip back into the past and be grateful you didn't live then. --------------------------- On occasion, I have had odd requests, whereby I think that some people may feel I am situated in an archive and have everything to hand. To dispel any myths, I am in fact, situated in the dining room of my home. I am one person, not a group of people. Like everyone else, I have to make the effort to do any research. This is time consuming and expensive, as you will know yourselves. As time and money is limited, I do what I can, when I can. I update as many times as possible. I work by the assumption that it is cheaper and easier for me to get the material, than for someone in (for example) Australia. That, and I enjoy doing it anyway. If you spot any mistakes or typo's, feel free to let me know. I'm by no means perfect and welcome your input. It lets me know that someone is actually reading this stuff. ------------------------------ If you benefited from this site, your might consider doing something similar for your own area. Start small, like I did, and build it up from there. Or you could transcribe something from your archives to donate to your local family history society. If you transcribe something for East Yorkshire, you could contact me and I will add another web page for you, with full credits going to yourself. We should all help each other where possible. By making the information available online, it aids others to do their own research from anywhere in the world. ------------------------------- If you had Yorkshire ancestors, you are an honorary "Tyke." Yorkshire Day is 1st August, every year. Wear a White Rose on that Day to honour Yorkshire and your ancestors. --------------------------------- From 14 August 2005, you are visitor number
